July 26 (UPI) -- Romania said Sunday it shot down a Russian drone over its territorial waters in the Black Sea, marking the the third such incident in a week and prompting the NATO member to summon Russia's ambassador.
Defense Minister Radu Miruța said a Romanian Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft shot down a drone that had penetrated into Romanian airspace near the delta of the River Danube in the Black Sea.
The drone was first detected by radar outside Romanian airspace before it continued without authorization into its national territory at 10:08 a.m. above Sulina, Miruta said in a statement.
Five minutes later it was shot down over the Black Sea.
