Game of Thrones fans were devastated after it was announced that the preview show of the theatre production was cancelled just hours before it was due to start13:49, 26 Jul 2026Die hard fans of Game of Thrones were left devastated after it emerged that the preview performance of the theatre production was cancelled just hours before it was due to start.‌A production of Game of Thrones: The Mad King was advertised to take place at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on July 25 - but it was called off at 4pm on the same day.‌Many have since voiced their fury on social media after theatre bosses explained that there were "a number of unforeseen delays" meaning those behind the scenes needed "additional time" for the show to go on.‌A statement to ticketholders read: "The decision to cancel performances is always challenging and is only taken after careful consideration of all the options available.“We recognise how disappointing this will be for audiences and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. All audience members affected will be provided with a full and automatic refund including any fees paid."‌In a follow-up statement, bosses added: "While we always work hard to avoid disappointment through cancelling performances, owing to the ambitious and epic nature of this production and faced with a number of unforeseen delays, we require additional time to bring Game of Thrones: The Mad King to a public audience.""The decision to cancel Saturday’s preview performance was only made after careful consideration of all options available."Taking to Reddit, a ticket holder said: "Having booked hotels and paid for travel this is absolutely unacceptable."‌Another agreed: "They are now offering us the chance to rebook, with 0 availability for the remaining run. The show's run continues until September 5.Theatre director and playwright Duncan Macmillan adapted the stage production from the iconic Netflix TV series.The stage version of the show takes audience members on the journey of Robert's Rebellion and features fan favourites including Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon.
