Greats like Gehrig, Maris, Hornsby, Sisler and DiMaggio — the Yankee Clipper — also made plate appearances here. The former site of Maple Leaf Stadium’s home plate and batter’s box lies in a driveway off Bishop Tutu Boulevard.
The pennant-winning Toronto Maple Leafs baseball club of the International League played 42 seasons at Maple Leaf Stadium on Lake Shore Boulevard, beginning in 1926. The jewel-box stadium hosted unforgettable matches, Hall of Famer plate appearances, a handful of no-hitters and a perfect game. (Today’s baseball Maple Leafs, playing at Christie Pits, are a different entity.)
