The civic accountability platform, Monitng, has announced plans to commence a nationwide tracking exercise to assess the condition of Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across selected states, citing persistent concerns over the state of healthcare facilities despite significant government spending on the sector.
In a public statement addressed to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, Monitng said Primary Health Care Centres were designed to serve as the backbone of Nigeria's healthcare system but had continued to fall short of expectations in many communities due to poor infrastructure and inadequate resources.
According to the organisation, "Nigeria's Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) are meant to be the foundation of the nation's healthcare system, serving as the first and most accessible point of care for millions of Nigerians."
