Naomi Baker/Getty ImagesJuly 25, 2026 1:59 pm EDT Updated English gymnast Gabriel Langton was reported to be conscious in hospital after sustaining a heavy fall during the men’s team gymnastics final at the ‌Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Friday.Langton received immediate medical attention on the mat after falling head-first to the mat below off the high bar after losing grip mid-routine. The 19-year-old was taken away from the arena on a stretcher and in a neck brace.“We are grateful to the medical teams ​who responded immediately to provide assistance,” read a statement on behalf of Team England, as cited by Reuters, which added Langton was conscious, moving and speaking with doctors after the incident.“He has been taken to hospital and we will share more ‌information ⁠when it is available.”Langton was unable to join Team England team-mates Luke Whitehouse, Josh Nathan, Adam Tobin, and Alex Yolshin-Cash in the podium celebrations as they rallied to win the silver medal, with Canada taking gold and Australia bronze.Whitehouse told BBC Sport: “From what we’ve heard, he’s doing OK. Gymnastics is such a dangerous sport and things like this remind us of that. It’s one of those things you have to put out of your mind.”He added: “It was really tough. The coaches were fantastic, and the boys who had to go up on high bar were incredible.“The togetherness of the team really showed, and I couldn’t be prouder of everyone.”Langton had replaced three-time Olympic gold medallist Max Whitlock in the English team line-up, after the 33-year-old sustained a hand injury ahead of the Games, which began on Thursday and run through to August 2.
