3amCelebrity NewsEmma ThompsonEmma Thompson is an acting legend and her own child has now followed in her footsteps12:31, 25 Jul 2026Emma Thompson is one of the UK’s beloved actors - and it turns out she has a famous daughter who has followed in her footsteps…‌The award-winning actress has been a staple on screens for years, thanks to appearances in films like Love Actually, Sense and Sensibility, and Nanny McPhee - which she co-wrote.‌The talented star has also bagged numerous accolades throughout her career, including two Academy Awards, and was made a Dame in 2018.‌Behind the scenes, though, Emma is a proud mum to two children, including a fellow actor. She shares daughter Gaia Wise, born in 1999, with husband Greg Wise. The couple also adopted Tindyebwa “Tindy” Agaba from Rwanda in 2003.As for Gaia, she has taken a leaf out of her famous mum’s book and carved a career in the entertainment industry. She started her acting career in the 2008 film Last Chance Harvey.‌Other credits include 2015’s A Walk in the Woods and Gaia voiced Héra in the 2024 animated adaptation The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.Gaia even worked alongside her mum, playing the younger version of Emma’s character in 2025's Dead of Winter. And recently, she joined the cast of series six of Channel 5’s All Creatures Great and Small, playing Charlotte, who was part of a new family in town.‌Over the years, Gaia has been open about her eating disorder issues. She said on the online cooking show Pass It On in 2021: “I was about 16 when I was diagnosed with anorexia. It was incredibly traumatic.Gaia went on to reveal that she used to “over-exercise and under-eat” to gain control. She explained: “When you over-exercise and under-eat, you don’t feel anything. It’s why it’s such a powerful illness.”‌Gaia ended up going into rehab late in December 2017 and stayed in a facility for three months.After leaving, Gaia had “a lot” of therapy and family counselling sessions. The latter is something she credits for saving her life and her relationship with her family.She told The Sun on Sunday: “I had to look at everything I was doing to my family, my relationships. We had family therapy ­sessions with a lot of crying and screaming.
