Sen. John Fetterman again voted against a War Powers Act resolution that would curb President Donald Trump's power in the Iran war.The measure failed in the Senate with a 49-47 vote, with Fetterman once again breaking from Democrats.Fetterman has consistently voted against efforts to limit the president's military authority in Iran.U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pennsylvania, again broke from Democrats in the most recent vote to block a war powers resolution that would limit President Donald Trump's powers in the Iran war.The War Powers Act failed 49-47 in the U.S. Senate on July 23, with Fetterman — a staunch proponent of the U.S.' military actions in Iran — casting a vote that ultimately caused it not to pass.While the House passed a resolution directing President Donald Trump to stop military action in Iran, the measure was largely symbolic. Similar measures have passed since Feb. 28, when the U.S. and Israel began striking Iran, but they have not led to a stop in hostilities, according to Reuters.And in the Senate, Fetterman has consistently voted against such efforts.How many times has Fetterman voted against war powers resolutions?The Senate has attempted to pass legislation limiting Trump's ability to attack Iran 12 times, according to Truthout, with Fetterman consistently opposing these efforts.On June 16, Fetterman voted against the removal of the U.S. military from Iran unless authorized by Congress. In May, he was the deciding vote against limiting Trump's powers in Iran. He has consistently voted to back Trump since the Senate began attempting to to pass a war powers resolution in February.Why does Fetterman keep voting against ending military action in Iran?Fetterman has been an unwavering supporter of U.S. military action in Iran, repeatedly saying that the Trump administration's attacks were justified in an effort to stop the development of a nuclear weapon and to destroy the country's theocratic regime.In June, he explained his vote not to reign in Trump's ability to attack Iran, telling NewsNation, "My vote no is not a pro-war vote. It’s absolutely a pro-no nuclear Iran."In a Washington Post column published in May 2026, Fetterman referenced Iran, saying that "the leading state sponsor of terror should be held to account.""In the wake of the war in Gaza, Iran-backed Hamas and Hezbollah have ramped up their attempts to dismantle our ally," he said. "I remained committed to fully backing the elimination of these terrorists and their leaders."More recently, Fetterman criticized Trump for focusing on unsubstantiated claims of election fraud in the midst of hostilities with Iran."That's been settled over six years ago," Fetterman said of the 2020 election fraud claims.
