The Midlands could reach 33C, with 32C coming along the England-Wales border. Temperatures in Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to be significantly cooler, struggling to rise past the low-20s.‌Extremely hot conditions are possible on Thursday. The GFS model shows sweltering 39C highs in central, southern and south-eastern England quite widely. This would smash the current temperature record for 2026, which is 37.7C (set on June 26 in Lingwood, Norfolk).Highs of 37C are possible on Friday in eastern areas, the maps suggest, with 35-36C on the cards across most of central and southern England. While Saturday could bring a return of 38C-39C temperatures - when eastern England is expected to be the warmest region.‌This heatwave should peak on Sunday with highs of 40C possible, once again in eastern England. Such temperatures would mean we may potentially see a new all-time temperature record for the UK. The current record stands at 40.3C, which came during the infamous July 2022 heatwave.Temperature anomaly maps for next week show England and Wales shaded in areas of dark red and black.
