US President Donald Trump publicly thanked Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev after Bulgaria approved the deployment of US tanker aircraft at Bezmer Air Base.
In a brief post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Thank you Prime Minister Radev!" The message accompanied a shared article stating that Bulgaria had backed the United States despite threats from Iran.
The statement came after Bulgaria's National Assembly voted on July 22 to approve the Council of Ministers' proposal allowing the deployment of US tanker aircraft and related equipment at Bezmer Air Base.
Lawmakers approved the measure with 135 votes in favor, 13 against and two abstentions, following an official request submitted by the United States.
According to the Bulgarian government, the deployment is intended to provide aerial refueling and logistical support for US operations in the Middle East. Officials have stressed that the use of Bezmer Air Base is part of Bulgaria's allied commitments and does not involve launching combat operations from Bulgarian territory.
