In a press statement issued on Friday by its Convener, Francis Nwapa, the group said decades of poor waste management had left refuse piling up across Lagos communities, exposing millions of residents to environmental pollution and increasing the risk of malaria, cholera, Lassa fever and other communicable diseases.
According to the group, its team obtained video evidence from the Olusosun-Ojota open dumpsite showing dozens of waste collection trucks trapped in floodwaters, while several trucks and caterpillars were submerged and immobilised within the facility.
The group said the development had prevented licensed waste collection operators from disposing of refuse, resulting in waste accumulating across communities for months.
