OTTAWA — The federal government is grounding any expansion of Billy Bishop airport, the Star has learned, after public consultation showed Torontonians are overwhelmingly against the idea.
A Transport Canada public survey on the airport expansion closed Friday and revealed public opinion was solidly opposed to the expansion. A senior government official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed to the Star the expansion would not go ahead.
