MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has secured its first bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) with a Latin American country after concluding negotiations with Chile, marking a key step in Manila’s efforts to expand its trade footprint in a region of more than 600 million people.
This comes less than two years after the two countries launched negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

In a social media post on Friday, the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Bureau of International Trade Relations said Trade Secretary Cristina Roque and Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna affirmed the conclusion of the negotiations during a recent meeting in Manila.
