MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has secured an “assurance” on continued availability of coal supply from Indonesia, the local market’s top source of imported coal, as Jakarta’s new export rules may threaten Filipinos’ power supply, according to the Department of Energy (DOE).
The DOE said on Friday that key officials from the agency, led by its Sec. Sharon Garin, flew to Jakarta to hold high-level meetings with Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The discussions sought regulatory clarity on Indonesia’s export guidelines, which aimed to enhance regulation on coal exports.
