MANILA, Philippines — The alleged kickbacks of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez were purportedly funneled through companies owned or controlled by an associate, according to state prosecutors.
The special panel of prosecutors of the Office of the Ombudsman put forth this theory in a 104-page supplemental complaint-affidavit they filed on July 20 to recommend case information be filed against Romualdez and his co-respondents in the Sandiganbayan.
Romualdez and former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co was accused by prosecutors of alleged “concerted and coordinated acts” in “unlawfully amassing, accumulating, and acquiring ill-gotten wealth” amounting to approximately P56 billion from 2022 to 2025.
