Biosecurity officials say they were unaware imported Australian honey was being sold in Samoa and will investigate the matter.
Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries' Biosecurity Division, Seumaloisalafai Afele Faiilagi, said he was not aware of the product when contacted by the Samoa Observer.
"I am not aware of it and I will have a discussion with my team about it to see if they're aware of this," he said.
The response follows an online advertisement for Stock Route Reserve Organic Honey, an Australian-made product sourced from wild beehives in the Australian bush, which is being offered for sale in Samoa.
The sale has raised questions because Samoa has long maintained strict biosecurity controls on the importation of honey and bee products.
