July 24 (UPI) -- Musician Chris Brown pleaded guilty Friday to a downgraded charge in the assault of a music producer at a London nightclub in 2023.

Brown, 37, pleaded guilty to a single charge of affray, or threatening violence. He originally faced a more serious charge of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm, which he pleaded not guilty to in July.

Brown's vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to affray in exchange for having the more severe charge dropped. The pair would have gone to trial in October had the agreement not been reached, The New York Times reported.

Each man faces up to three years in prison for the affray charge.
