MIAMI, July 24 (UPI) -- A Dec. 21 Duke-Michigan men's college basketball matchup was canceled due to a misinterpretation of broadcast rights, a source familiar with the game's planning told UPI on Friday.
The game was initially set to be held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, but the broadcast rights misinterpretation led to organizers attempting to move the game to loanDepot park in Miami. Persisting broadcast rights issues resulted in the parties still not being able to work out an agreement, triggering the cancelation.
The game between the defending champion Wolverines and Blue Devils was set to air Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon announced in April that it would present three marquee, neutral-site non-conference games featuring the Blue Devils per season. The series is set to start with a game against UConn on Nov. 25 in Las Vegas. The Blue Devils are scheduled to face Gonzaga on Feb. 20 in Detroit.
