RIO DE JANEIRO · NIGHTLIFE

Pedra do Sal

If you only have one night in Rio, this is where you feel the city’s soul. A free, open-air samba roda at a historic Afro-Brazilian site in Saúde, packed with locals, musicians and a few savvy visitors. Go tonight, Friday, when the roda traditionally kicks off around 7 or 8 pm, grab a caipirinha from a street vendor, and stand inches from the drummers. It’s the real juice of Brasil, and it’s only truly alive on Mondays and Fridays.
