July 24 (UPI) -- The European Commission announced Friday that it sent a warning to TikTok for violations of its Digital Services Act about safety standards for minors.
It cited that minors can set their accounts as public, allowing anyone to see their content, including those without accounts.
"This exposure could result in unwanted contact from potential perpetrators and a risk that content can be used for cyberbullying," a press release said. "This feature potentially gives strangers a window into a child's life. In addition, since what minors publish may stay online forever and follow them into adulthood, the feature comes with risks of potentially lifelong consequences."
When minors set their accounts to private, their accounts can be found through the "following" list of other users, and their photos are accessible to anyone, the Commission said.
