Where is Quenda?”That was the widespread reaction online when Chelsea publicised their 27-man travelling squad for their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.In a very youthful group inevitably depleted by several senior players enjoying their post-World Cup breaks, the two summer arrivals were surprising absentees.New striker signing Emmanuel Emegha, who scored in both of Chelsea’s behind-closed-doors friendly victories over Crawley Town and Bromley, will sit out the trip. Sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, told The Athletic he injured his hamstring in the latter fixture.Geovany Quenda, the teenage winger who arrived from Sporting CP earlier this month, picked up a minor problem in training at Cobham on Thursday and was omitted from the squad as a precaution, though a source suggested that there remains a chance he could fly out to join the squad later in the tour.Chelsea supporters will, however, be able to get a proper look at defender Marco Palestra, the first signing of the Xabi Alonso era, as well as Kazakh forward Dastan Satpayev.Fans who attend Chelsea’s matches against Western Sydney Wanderers and Tottenham at Accor Stadium, or tune in to watch from around the world, should see plenty of star power. Teddy Sharman-Lowe has also served as senior third-choice goalkeeper.
