Muscat: Oman has adopted two new national standards for Omani frankincense products, reinforcing the quality and global competitiveness of one of the Sultanate's most iconic national commodities. Issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the standards cover OS 1660 for Omani frankincense essential oil and OS 1661 for distilled Omani frankincense water used in cosmetic products. The new standards are designed to harmonize technical requirements, improve product quality, strengthen consumer and market confidence, enhance the competitiveness of national products, and create new investment opportunities in the frankincense sector. The OS 1660 standard specifies requirements for the physical and chemical characteristics of Omani frankincense essential oil, packaging and storage, verification of chemical composition, and labeling and warning requirements.Meanwhile, OS 1661 sets quality requirements for distilled Omani frankincense water used in cosmetics, covering product purity, packaging and storage, permissible contaminant limits, and labeling requirements. With these national standards now in place, Omani frankincense continues to strengthen its position as one of the Sultanate's most valuable national products, supporting sustainable growth, expanding access to international markets, and enhancing the reputation of Omani products worldwide.
