Disclosure: I work at ZoopCoder, a small development agency in India. So the whole point of this post is a number that argues against hiring us — 42% — and it is the number our own industry never prints.

The rule first, because it is the only part most people need

In India in 2026, hire a freelancer if the project is under roughly ₹1,00,000, has a scope you can write on one page, and could survive a two-week pause. Hire an agency once it crosses ₹1,00,000, needs more than one skill set, or has a launch date you cannot move.

That is it. Everything else here is the arithmetic behind it, plus one statutory fact that changes the answer for about half the people reading this.

The exclusive fact: the agency premium is 20% or 42%, and it depends on YOUR registration, not their price
