Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has won an interstate transmission project worth about ₹8,500 crore in Andhra Pradesh, aimed at supplying power to upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Visakhapatnam region.The project, awarded under the Centre’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework, will support an estimated power demand of around 4,500 MW from proposed green molecule projects in Vizag, while also strengthening the grid capacity in the Pendurthi–Visakhapatnam corridor, where large-scale data centre and digital infrastructure investments are being planned, an official release from the company stated here on Friday.The transmission system will be developed through a special purpose vehicle, Vizag Power Transmission Ltd, and includes the construction of two high-capacity substations at Pendurthi in Vizag and at Khammam-II. The project will add around 1,582 circuit kilometers of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s portfolio. With this addition, the company’s transmission network will expand to 29,531 circuit km, while transformation capacity will rise to around 1,33,675 MVA.Kandarp Patel, CEO, Adani Energy Solutions Ltd stated, “The Vizag transmission project is an important step in building the energy backbone for India’s next generation of industrial growth. It will support the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia capacity in Andhra Pradesh, while also strengthening the grid for emerging digital infrastructure demand in the Pendurthi–Vizag region.”The project is expected to be completed within 30 months.The win comes as Andhra Pradesh seeks to build a green energy ecosystem around Visakhapatnam, leveraging its industrial base, port infrastructure and renewable energy potential. Green hydrogen and green ammonia projects require large volumes of reliable renewable power, making high-capacity transmission infrastructure a critical component of the planned investments. The Vizag region is also witnessing increased interest from digital infrastructure players, with planned hyperscale data centres, AI infrastructure and subsea connectivity projects expected to drive additional electricity demand.AESL’s latest order takes its transmission order book beyond ₹80,000 crore, strengthening its position as the country’s largest private sector transmission and distribution company.
