The U.S. government has imposed new tariffs on 60 countries that account for the vast majority of U.S. imports because, according to Washington’s assessment, they have not taken sufficient measures to combat forced labor.

The new tariffs, ranging from 10% to 12.5%, target key U.S. economic partners, including the United Kingdom, China, the European Union, Canada, Japan, and India.
They took effect on Friday, following the expiration of a temporary 10% tariff on foreign goods imposed earlier this year.
Last month, the White House proposed imposing tariffs of 10–12.5% on imports from dozens of countries due to concerns that these countries are not doing enough to combat the use of forced labor.
