The European Commission has imposed €890 million (£760m) in fines on Google for its search and Android app store practices, in the company’s first penalties under new Digital Markets Act competition rules.

Google received two separate fines, including €460m for allegedly preferencing its own services such as booking flights and hotels over those of third-parties on its search engine.

Google displays its own services “more prominently in search results”, while similar services from third-parties “do not have the same prominence”, the Commission said.
