Lithuania has not yet decided whether to join two newly launched international defence financing initiatives unveiled during this month’s NATO summit, Finance Minister Taurimas Valys said.
Speaking to the business daily Verslo Žinios, Valys said Lithuania was closely following both the Canada-led Defence, Security and Resilience Bank and the British-backed Multilateral Defence Mechanism but had not made any formal decision on participation.
According to the minister, Lithuania is paying closer attention to the Multilateral Defence Mechanism because it combines defence financing with cooperation on military procurement.
“Lithuania is participating in discussions related to this initiative at the expert level,” Valys said.
The two initiatives were announced during the NATO summit in Ankara earlier this month as part of broader efforts to strengthen allied defence capabilities and expand financing for the defence industry.
