Syrian border guards intercepted multiple smuggling attempts from Lebanon, seizing more than 700,000 Captagon pills and 40 kilograms of hashish.

The drug seizures targeted areas including Homs and Damascus, with one operation foiled near Al Nabek following extensive surveillance.

Captagon, an amphetamine-like substance, was mass-produced during Syria's civil war and became a key funding source for Bashar Al Assad's regime.

Since Mr Al Assad's ousting in December 2024, authorities have conducted at least 1,550 drug seizures, dismantled 90 smuggling networks and shut 17 factories.
