Ukraine has launched more devastating strikes on 'Russia's Amazon' Wildberries, leaving the company's online marketplace hubs ablaze in enormous infernos08:26, 24 Jul 2026Updated 08:53, 24 Jul 2026Ukraine has attacked two major logistics centres for "Russia's Amazon" in Vladimir Putin's home city St Petersburg.‌The overnight drone strikes left marketplace hubs belonging to the country's largest online retailer Wildberries ablaze in enormous infernos.‌Another Wildberries facility was struck in Russian-occupied Crimea, sparking a massive fire which was visible from space.‌One more was reportedly hit in Tver region amid a mass failure by Putin's much-vaunted air defences during the most intense Ukrainian overnight attack of the entire war.Separately, Ukraine used its own Flamingo missiles to strike key defence plant Avitek in Kirov region.‌The sanctioned company makes aviation equipment, guided anti-aircraft missiles and many types of military equipment used to kill and maim Ukrainians.There were fears of multiple casualties among workers at the Kirov plant after reports no evacuation alert had been sounded before multiple explosions.Dozens of ambulances were reported to be rushing to the blitzed manufacturing base.‌The strike came 12 hours after Putin held an "emergency" security council meeting as he desperately sought to boost weapons production at plants such as Avitek for a war he refuses to halt despite the pain Ukraine is now inflicting on Russia.Major flight delays hit St Petersburg as towering plumes of black smoke rose from the Wildberries strikes in Shushary and Utkina Zavod likely causing billions of pounds of damages. More than 50 flights were disrupted.‌The company, which handles 52% of all Russian online orders, suspended its operations at these two hubs. Staff were evacuated before the drones struck.Footage showed the Wildberries hub at Simferopol in Crimea engulfed in flames following a Ukrainian strike.The attack is expected to pile further pressure on the annexed peninsula, where residents are already grappling with an oil supply blockade that has left supermarket shelves bare.‌Ukraine's strikes have also deterred many summer tourists from visiting the popular destination.The Wildberries hub in Tver was also hit, bringing the number of facilities hit in recent days to nine. Several of these have been left totally destroyed.‌The crisis for Wildberries directly impacts Russian retailing and is both a huge psychological and economic blow to Putin.Thousands of small business suppliers have now lost their livelihoods, with only limited compensation expected.President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Wildberries supplying Putin's military machine, including navigation equipment, drone components and other war goods.Article continues belowSome 571 Ukrainian drones were shot down over 15 Russian regions, annexed Crimea and the Black and Azov seas on Friday morning, making it the largest overnight attack since the war began.
