AI directories have a simple-looking interface: a search box, categories, and cards. The hard part is not rendering cards. It is building enough trust that buyers use the catalog and founders want to be listed.

I built ToolVerity as an independent directory for discovering and comparing AI tools. The current catalog contains 329 tools, programmatic category and use-case pages, owner claims, and a clearly labeled paid Featured option.

Here are the decisions that mattered most.

1. Separate editorial ranking from payment

A paid placement can increase visibility, but it should never silently change an editorial ranking. Sponsored positions are labeled, while category and comparison pages use the same editorial structure for every product.
