Frustrations are growing as Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has been absent from the Senate for 40 days, leading to speculation about his health and the truth of his statement from nearly 2 weeks ago.
This week, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) said he still has not had any communication from McConnell, adding that the people of his state deserve to hear from the senator.
"If he can make a call to his political operatives and spend 15 or 20 minutes, call into a news station and spend 4 or 5. Just let people know you're okay," Beshear said in a television interview. "This rampant speculation is so wild, he has a chance to end it."
The public first learned details about McConnell's recent health woes at the beginning of July, when it was reported that paramedics responded to a "cardiac arrest" for an unconscious person at McConnell's home on June 14. His office issued a statement on that date that he had been hospitalized, but did not explain why.
The first medic on the scene began performing CPR, and was joined by additional EMS teams, according to police scanner audio obtained by NBC News.
