July 23 (Asia Today) -- A joint prosecution and police investigation team raided South Korea's national and local election offices Thursday after detecting suspected manipulation of voter turnout statistics connected to ballot shortages during the June 3 local elections.
The team said investigators began searching the National Election Commission headquarters in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, as well as election commission offices in Seoul's Songpa, Gangnam and Seocho districts.
Investigators are also searching individuals suspected of involvement in the alleged false entry of voter turnout figures at the national and Gyeonggi provincial election commissions, the team said.
The searches are part of an investigation into shortages of printed ballots that occurred at polling places during the local elections.
