President Donald Trump has threatened to inflict “major military punishment” not only on Iran, but now their Houthi allies, after the Yemeni group fired on Saudi tankers in the Red Sea, sending the price of oil soaring.

On Wednesday, another source of energy – nuclear – was the focus of a new agreement between the US and Saudis.

But then overnight the president demanded that the Saudis would have to recognise the State of Israel for it to go ahead, leaving his own deal in ruins.
