TV channel: In the UK, Channel 5 has secured the rights to provide comprehensive free-to-air television coverage of the highly anticipated opening event which takes place at The OVO Hydro in Glasgow.
They will broadcast the entire opening ceremony live on their main television channel, so everyone can watch without a subscription.
The ceremony officially begins precisely at 8pm.
New broadcasting rights: This year marks a historic shift after the BBC lost their coverage of the event and will not show the Games for the first time since the 1950s.
Following a bidding war, TNT Sports emerged victorious, claiming the live broadcasting rights for the 11-day spectacle and promising around 600 hours of real-time action.
