Luka Modric will remain at Milan for another season after signing a one-year contract extension.Modric, 40, joined the Serie A club last summer on a single-year deal with the option of an additional 12 months following his exit from Real Madrid, where he had spent the previous 13 years.Milan, who will be led by head coach Ruben Amorim in the 2026-27 campaign following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri, said in a statement on Thursday the Croatia international had committed his future to the club for a further season.“A key figure in the Rossoneri midfield since his arrival, Luka has brought his experience and quality to the service of the team, both on and off the pitch, with humility and great passion,” a Milan statement read. “One of the finest and most iconic players in world football, the Croatian will continue his journey in the Rossoneri shirt … with the ambition to reach new, important milestones.”In quotes reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, Amorim said earlier this month that Modric is an “incredible player” and one “we want to keep”. He added that he had been in contact with the midfielder, but acknowledged his need to rest after Croatia’s World Cup exit. Amorim explained Modric may not play every game, but would be a hugely important figure for the team.
