Taiwan’s industrial electricity consumption rose again last month, reinforcing signs of solid artificial intelligence (AI)-driven economic activity even as sales by state-owned utility Taiwan Power Co (Taipower, 台電) declined, Taiwan Research Institute (TRI, 台灣綜合研究院) said yesterday. The institute-compiled Electricity Prosperity Index remained in the “red,” indicating “booming” activity, for the 15th consecutive month last month after high-voltage industrial electricity consumption increased 0.58 percent from a year earlier, it said. The institute uses a five-color system to gauge Taiwan’s power consumption and economic activity, with “red” indicating “booming,” “yellow-red” signaling warming, “green” representing stable growth, “yellow-blue” signifying a sluggish economy and “blue” implying an economic contraction.
