Emphasising India’s strong track record of delivery in the renewables space, Minister for New & Renewable Entergy Pralhad Joshi said on Thursday that households under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna (PMSG: MBY) are expected to surpass 50 lakh in the next few weeks.In his address during a curtain raiser event for the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo (BRESE) 2026, Joshi emphasised that India’s credibility on the global stage is built on its strong track record of delivery, which has enabled it to convene the global renewable energy community.India will soon cross the landmark of 300 gigawatt (GW) of installed non-fossil fuel capacity. He also informed that the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is expected to cross 50 lakh beneficiary households in the coming weeks, he added.Launched in February 2024 with an outlay of ₹75,021 crore, PMSG: MBY has become the world’s largest domestic rooftop solar programme. Over 1 crore households have registered on the National Portal, with more than 33 lakh rooftop systems installed as of May 2026, adding over 12 GW capacity.3 major renewable energy eventsThe BRESE for the first time will bring together three major renewable energy events under one platform—BRESE 2026, 9th Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly, and 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH).Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to inaugurate BRESE 2026. He said the Prime Minister’s presence reflects India’s commitment to renewable energy as a key pillar of Viksit Bharat and its contribution to global sustainable development, he added.The summit will bring together leading renewable energy developers, technology companies, manufacturers, battery storage firms, green hydrogen pioneers, financial institutions, international organisations, and investors, ensuring representation of the entire renewable energy value chain under one roof, Joshi said.He added that the summit has also been designed with a truly global outlook. Invitations have been extended to 34 countries for the BRESE Summit, while the International Solar Alliance has invited 128 countries for the Assembly.The BRESE 2026 is scheduled to be held in the national capital from November 2-5, 2026.Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, highlighted that India’s renewable energy transition is being driven by the collective efforts of States across the country.He noted that while Rajasthan is harnessing its vast solar resources and Gujarat is developing the world’s largest hybrid renewable energy park at Khavda, several other States are advancing hydropower, floating solar, biomass and decentralised renewable energy, reflecting the spirit of cooperative and competitive federalism.MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi said that India’s renewable energy transformation has been built on four key pillars—policy stability, market creation, ecosystem development and transmission infrastructure.The Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo (BRESE) 2026 will provide a common platform for governments, industry, investors, innovators and international partners to accelerate investments, technology partnerships and collaboration in clean energy, he added.
