Greer was arrested in April and was under investigation for rape after his first known victim reported an attack from 2012, which occurred after she called police to her Glasgow home. Detectives have since identified eight additional victims, five of whom were sex workers, who were attacked by Greer while he was off duty, with allegations against him including attempted murder and violent sexual offending. Police Scotland's anti-corruption unit is conducting a "large and complex" investigation to ascertain the full extent of Greer's offending and is appealing for any further victims to come forward for support. The case has been likened to "Police Scotland's Wayne Couzens moment," referencing the Metropolitan Police officer who raped and murdered Sarah Everard while off-duty.
