CAF President Patrice Motsepe has backed Gianni Infantino for re-election as Fifa president.
Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe has reaffirmed his support for Fifa counterpart Gianni Infantino while insisting he has no interest in replacing him or pursuing a position at world football’s governing body.
Infantino has faced increased scrutiny following a controversial Fifa World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, with criticism coming from several corners of global football.
LaLiga president Javier Tebas was among those who called for Infantino to resign, accusing Fifa of harming domestic leagues and clubs through the expansion of international competitions.
Despite the criticism, CAF has already backed Infantino’s bid for re-election when FIFA’s presidential vote takes place in March next year, with Motsepe reiterating his support on Wednesday.
