These figures are based on the latest data published by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), which reports that 270,557 new battery-electric passenger cars were registered in the EU in June. Compared to June 2025, this represents a growth of 60.7 per cent. Following the 203,417 new electric cars registered in May, the pace of registrations has accelerated significantly. For comparison, the EU’s overall passenger car market grew by 13.6 per cent in June compared to the previous year.
In the first half of the year, a total of 1,220,890 new electric cars were registered in the EU – 40.5 per cent more than in the same period last year. The BEV market share increased from 15.6 per cent to 20.7 per cent, meaning roughly one in five newly registered passenger cars in the EU is now fully electric. In total, nearly 5.9 million new passenger cars were registered from January to June, representing a 5.7 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
Three of the EU’s four largest BEV markets saw significant growth in the first half of the year. France recorded a 62.9 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, Germany 48 per cent, and Denmark 41.2 per cent. Belgium, however, saw a comparatively modest rise of 8.2 per cent. According to ACEA, these four markets jointly account for 63 per cent of all battery-electric new registrations in the EU.
