BillionE recently flagged off the first batch of electric trucks from JK Cement’s plant in Muddapur, Karnataka. The company is helping JK Cement sustainably deliver cement produced there to stockyards across Karnataka, as well as in the neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Goa. It says this is one of the largest deployments of electric trucks for cement logistics in the region.
In addition to operating the electric trucks, BillionE will oversee fleet operations and route management. The company has partnered with ChargeZone to leverage its fast-charging network in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa for this initiative. The charge point operator is strengthening its presence across key locations, including Satara, Pune, Karad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra; Nipani, Hubli, and Davangere in Karnataka; as well as in Goa.
The first batch entirely comprises Montra Electric’s Rhino 5538 55-tonne electric truck. Montra Electric offers this model in tractor-trailer and tipper versions, and BillionE is using the former for the contract with JK Cement. The company gives a choice of two configurations for the electric tractor-trailer: 4×2 and 6×4. It uses a 280kW motor and a 282kWh LFP battery pack, which delivers a range of 198km in the 4×2 configuration and 169 kilometres in the 6×4 configuration.
