Following “Young Sheldon” and “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” is the third spin-off from “The Big Bang Theory,” but the first to follow directly from the OG show. Creator Chuck Lorre has said he’s looking to “do something radical” with the new show, and it very much looks like we’re stepping out of the cozy comedy comfort zone for this installment.
As the title implies, the new show follows Stuart (Kevin Sussman), owner of the comic book store where our original gang spent so much time hanging out and debating every corner of geek culture. Following the events of the original series, Stuart accidentally breaks a quantum device, built by Sheldon and Leonard, no less, triggering an apocalyptic, multiverse-spanning Armageddon.Taking it upon himself to fix fractured reality, Stuart embarks on a universe-hopping adventure with girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), geologist Bert (Brian Posehn), and physicist and one-time Sheldon rival Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie) along for the ride. With echoes of "Future Man" and "Sliders", the 10-episode series will see the group hop from one universe to another as they try to restore the multiverse. None of the other original "The Big Bang Theory" cast members have been confirmed to return. However, we wouldn't be surprised to see a few alternate-selves cameos before the season is over.Sounding more like the sort of sci-fi extravaganza our four favourite nerds would (hate) watch than anything the franchise has delivered previously, the new adventures of Stuart and co. are an intriguing must-watch for "The Big Bang Theory" fans.
