Riding on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) wave, Keralam is set to establish a global “watchtower” to identify emerging job opportunities for the state’s youth across different countries and industries, the Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has said.“We have begun appointing experts from various sectors to monitor developments in the global job market. They will submit periodic reports to the government, and based on their findings, we will restructure the curriculum and introduce new academic programmes that align with future employment opportunities,” he said while inaugurating the office of Naviq Technology, a new AI company, at the IBS Software Campus in Infopark, Kochi, on Thursday.He declared that the government’s vision is to transform Keralam into a hub for Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies.Highlighting the role of AI in governance, he said that AI should be adopted as a powerful tool to improve government services. As a first step, an AI-powered dashboard will be introduced in the Chief Minister’s Office, and a nodal officer will be appointed to oversee its implementation and ensure its smooth functioning.The government has already begun using AI to help prevent human-wildlife conflict. Experts are developing AI-based mechanisms to detect the presence of wild animals near human settlements. The system will issue early warnings and attempt to drive the animals away using lights, followed by sound-based deterrents if necessary.Referring to global trends, he said farmers around the world are increasingly using AI for weather forecasting, selecting suitable seeds, soil testing, and improving agricultural productivity. Keralam, too, is leveraging AI for disaster management, climate protection, and other public service initiatives.He also stressed that keeping knowledge up to date has become one of the biggest challenges of the modern era. Future technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering, and Renewable Energy are rapidly reshaping industries. “There is a need to embrace these technologies for the benefit of the youth,” he said.Keralam IT Secretary Seeram Sambasiva Rao, said that the state government is in the process of setting up a new dedicated organisation called Future Corporation to focus on investment promotion in technology sector.He also talked about Semicon Kerala, a dedicated organisation focussing on semi conductor and electronics sector. “We know this sector is undergoing enormous change and has a lot opportunities because of the AI boom”, he said,Published on July 23, 2026
