The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has assumed management of Malaefatu Park following reconstruction work completed last month, with all bookings and enquiries for the facility now being handled by the ministry.
In a public notice issued on 22 July, the ministry advised that all venue bookings, enquiries and requests for information relating to the park should be directed to its office.
The announcement follows reconstruction work at the park and comes after concerns were raised last year about the condition of the playground at Malaefatu Reserve in Sogi.
While the notice confirms the ministry has taken over management of the park, it does not explain why responsibility has changed or provide an update on the condition of the playground, including whether all repairs have been completed.
Malaefatu Play Space was opened in July 2015 as part of the Apia Waterfront Development Project. The inclusive playground was completed over four months and officially opened ahead of the historic Samoa versus All Blacks rugby test match.
