Fifteen religious leaders, including pastors and prophets, have been identified by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) for investigation over allegations that they obtained visas, permanent residence permits and other immigration benefits through irregular, fraudulent and unlawful means.
Home Affairs Minister Dr Leon Schreiber revealed the figures in a written parliamentary reply, saying investigations have already resulted in eight matters being referred to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for consideration of prosecution.
According to Schreiber, the SIU launched the investigations under Proclamation No. 154 of 2024 and identified a total of 15 individuals linked to alleged irregularities in the acquisition of immigration benefits.
“The Special Investigating Unit (SIU), acting in terms of Proclamation No. 154 of 2024, has identified a total of fifteen (15) individuals for investigation in relation to allegations of irregular, fraudulent and/or unlawful acquisition of immigration benefits,” Schreiber said.
