Beatrix Potter, literary mother of such whimsical creatures as Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck and Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, is more often associated with the rolling hills of the Lake District than the bustling streets of London, but as she was born in Kensington, we're claiming her as one of our own.
As the 160th anniversary of Potter's birth approaches in July 2026, take a look at the London locations that inspired her — including where she found the intriguing names of some of her characters.
