Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Moscow remains ready for negotiations over the war in Ukraine but insisted that continued Western arms deliveries to Kyiv are "unacceptable," according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Lavrov and Rubio met in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, on July 23. The talks lasted a little more than 30 minutes and were held on the sidelines of meetings at the Philippine International Convention Center.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the two officials discussed a broad range of bilateral and international issues in light of recent high-level contacts between Moscow and Washington. Lavrov also presented what the ministry described as the "real" situation regarding Russia's war against Ukraine.
The Russian side said Lavrov reaffirmed Moscow's willingness to pursue a political and diplomatic settlement while objecting to continued military assistance for Ukraine. "Lavrov once again confirmed the Russian side's readiness for a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict and its commitment to the proposals put forward by the American side during the meeting between Putin and Trump in Anchorage," the ministry said.
