Samsung is in talks to invest hundreds of millions of euros in French AI firm Mistral as part of a fundraising round that could value the start-up at €20 million (£17m), the Financial Times reported, citing unnamed people.
Samsung, which has previously invested in Mistral through its venture operation, could invest about €1bn in the new round, the report said.
The investment would help fund Mistral’s ambitions to create a European rival to US and Chinese AI offerings, while also bolstering its relationship with a key semiconductor supplier, at a time when AI companies’ infrastructure efforts are facing a severe chip shortage.
