The advisory also cautioned about potential threats to US interests overseas.In an advisory posted on its official travel portal on Wednesday, the department said: “Due to heightened tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation.”The alert urged Americans worldwide to “exercise increased caution” and advised those currently in the Middle East to remain vigilant.“Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and heightened vigilance and should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions,” the State Department said.The department added that airlines in the region had altered operations, with some postponing the resumption of earlier flight schedules and others cancelling routes.In a post on X, the State Department warned, “Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions.”Americans outside the region were advised to reconsider travel plans involving the Middle East. “Americans outside the Middle East should reconsider travel to and through the region,” the advisory said, urging travellers to monitor airport and airline updates before departure, the advisory read.The warning came as military tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to intensify. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Thursday that American forces carried out another round of strikes against Iran, marking the 12th consecutive night of attacks.CENTCOM said the operations targeted Iranian military capabilities and were aimed at further reducing Tehran’s ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels in regional waters. The command said the strikes were conducted at the direction of the US President.US President Donald Trump had earlier said Iran was being “hit so hard” and described the conflict as a “skirmish”, claiming Tehran wanted a deal. Iranian officials warned that any attacks on the country’s infrastructure would trigger a “decisive response” and vowed retaliation.
