There are very few things more humbling than looking for a job with little or no response. It's not only overwhelming but also frustrating when it feels as though AI is everywhere and everyone has access to the same AI tools.A recent study even found that nearly half of LinkedIn posts longer than 250 words appear to be AI-generated, highlighting just how crowded the AI-assisted job market has become.That's why, whenever a friend tells me they're looking for a new job, I don't tell them to ask ChatGPT to write another cover letter. Use it to figure out how to escape your current situation and explore something new.What is the Escape Prompt?Instead of asking ChatGPT to "find me a new job" or "write my resume," ask it to become your career strategist.Here's the prompt: Act as my career strategist, recruiter and interview coach. My goal isn't simply to find another job — it's to leave a role that no longer fits me.If you don't have memory enabled, you need to include the following information when you use the 'Escape Prompt'. Add, "here's my background: Current role, years of experience, skills, industries I've worked in, what I enjoy most about my job, what drains my energy, salary goals, location preferences. Then, based on this information, recommend career paths I may not have considered, explain which of my skills transfer best to those roles, identify companies that value my experience, rewrite my experience for those employers, point out skills I should build over the next six months, create a realistic 30-day job search plan. generate interview questions I should expect. Challenge my assumptions if I'm thinking too narrowly."As a bonus, if you have memory enabled, use this prompt: Based on what you know about me, what should I do tomorrow to progress in my career and find a job I love. Keep in mind that when you use this prompt, you're going to get a long response back from ChatGPT. If you get overwhelmed by a lot of information at once (I know I do!), then break up the prompt or ask for bullet points.Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.Why it worksThis prompt creates a response that's tailored specifically for you. In a job market with so much AI slop, this is an opportunity to get information catered to you and your needs. That said, when you can still use ChatGPT to help write your resume and prepare for job interviews, but make sure you go over your AI-written resume and cover letter to avoid embarrassing mistakes. AI is great as an assistant, but just like you wouldn't let an intern complete the entire project, you need to be in the loop to ensure everything is correct and doesn't give off the "uncanny valley" AI response.The Escape Prompt flips job searching on its head
