Darren and Ferrel Govender at Durban High Court on Wednesday after their trial was adjourned to Thursday morning.
“You’re going to die! I’m coming for you.” Those were the words allegedly uttered by former Pro Secure CEO Ferrel Govender to a Durban businessman who had previously been in a relationship with Govender’s then-girlfriend, Varushka Maharaj, the Durban High Court heard on Wednesday.
Govender is standing trial alongside his younger brother, Darren Govender, for the December 2024 murder of Durban businessman Shailen Singh, who was allegedly shot dead in Umhlanga. According to the State, Ferrel accused Singh of having an affair with his girlfriend, Salona Ramrutton/Kisten.
The businessman, who cannot be identified for security reasons, testified that he became the target of Govender’s threats following what he described as a misunderstanding during a telephone conversation with Maharaj.
On Tuesday, the witness told the court that although he and Maharaj had ended their romantic relationship, they remained friends with benefits. During an intoxicated phone call with her, he said he could not recall exactly what Maharaj had said, but remembered responding that he “was not worried about any mother****.”
